2023 Ex-transport minister’s ally, Eze rates possibility of Amaechi, Wike changing political base

Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a former nPDP publicity secretary and leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South-South, has discussed the prospect that former transportation minister Chibuike Amaechi could leave the APC.

The presidential candidates have had a chilly relationship since they were upset with the results of the APC primaries, which were held in Abuja on June 7 and 8.

In what many political analysts have referred to as an unseemly romance, the presidential candidate of the governing party appears to have completely forgotten Amaechi in favor of the former Minister’s political adversary, Governor Nyesom Wike.

Following his loss in the presidential primary elections, Wike has been at loggerheads with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s presidential nominee, and appears to be working against the party’s hopes of retaking power in 2023.

There are worries that Tinubu and his camp have, for whatever reason, switched their attention to the governor of Rivers State, seeking to entice him to the APC, rather than reconciling some of the previous candidates who competed with him for the party’s single ticket.

Nine candidates dropped down for Tinubu just before the convention’s voting began, reducing the number of candidates to 23 from the original 23.

To win the only ticket, Tinubu defeated Amaechi, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, and 12 other candidates. Since then, the former Rivers State Governor has kept a low profile and appeared to be preoccupied with party business as top party figures secretly court Wike, his political adversary.

This has given rise to rumors that Anaechi may leave the APC shortly and maybe join the PDP again, which he left in 2014, while Wike may go for consolation in the country’s ruling party.

And on Wednesday, Chief Eze, a longtime supporter of the former governor of Rivers State, told Daily Post that everything is possible in politics.

When asked if Amaechi may leave the APC for the PDP or another party, Eze said to DAILY POST, “In politics nothing is rocket science. In politics, everything is possible.

The truth is that Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi is now an important member of the APC’s leadership. People keep asking if Amaechi

“Amaechi is not a typical APC member; he is the party’s soul. Without the role he played, the party might not exist as it does today. Whether or not such a pillar of the organization is leaving the party shouldn’t worry anyone because, whenever it becomes necessary for him to do so, it will be a major international news event.

“Let me make it clear that if Amaechi must resign, he will inform the party’s leadership and, out of respect, talk to President Muhammadu Buhari, whom he regards as a father, about it.

He is now in need of relaxation after devoting all of his time to making sure that he serves our country to the best of his ability, but I am confident that he will address the country about his next course of action before the end of September.

Eze continued, “Wike is a Nigerian and APC is a political party and there is no prejudice or limitation on who should join or not join the party. If that were the Governor’s next move, Wike would be welcomed in the party.

Despite Wike’s vile criticism of the President and threats to ruin the party in Rivers State, I am adamant that he will never join the APC. However, if he does decide to join the party, he will be eligible for the title of most shambolic politician of all time.

“What I can understand is that Wike is negotiating for relevance with the PDP Presidential flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar, on what he may obtain if the party wins by 2023, using some APC officials as instruments.

In contrast, once we get to the bridge, we may make plans for how to cross it. “Wike joining APC will have some major ramifications that I am not willing to divulge at the moment.”
