Market traders, motorcycle (okada) and tricycle (keke) operators, and members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State, consisting of natives and non-natives of the state, on Friday declared their unwavering support for Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as political parties prepare to launch their campaigns ahead of the 2023 general election in Nigeria.
Market vendors, keke and okada drivers, and NURTW members also endorsed Barr, the PDP candidate for governor of the state. Assuring them of their support is Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, his running mate Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, and other PDP candidates.
In spite of the state’s limited resources and the nation’s economic difficulties, they thanked Gov. Ugwuanyi for the numerous development projects his administration had carried out in the state, emphasizing that the roads and other infrastructure they had provided, particularly in the rural areas, had helped their businesses expand.
The traders and transporters also expressed their gratitude to Gov. Ugwuanyi for the invaluable help his administration has provided them in protecting life and property in their various markets, including the distribution of fire extinguishers and palliatives during the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak. They emphasized the unwavering nature of their support for the governor and the PDP.
Orba Modern Market Chairman Chief Charles Ezeugwu said that they are proud of the governor as their distinguished son and leader while paying a solidarity visit to Gov. Ugwuanyi at the Government House in Enugu.
Chief Ezeugwu said that “We the Orba and the Udenu people, all the market traders, the keke riders, the okada riders, the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) came here today to pay a solidarity visit to our brother, our son, and our father” in the company of Hon. Solomon Obah, Chairman of the Udenu Local Government Area.
He claimed that they are satisfied with Gov. Ugwuanyi’s measures for peace and good governance as well as the way he has been managing Enugu State’s affairs, referring to him as a peacemaker and good governor.
He said, “We are really proud of you, and we are telling you to keep it up, because we are your children in Udenu LGA. We wholeheartedly support your bid for the Senate in 2023. We came here to show our support for all the good deeds you are carrying out in Enugu State. We wholeheartedly support Barr, whom you have nominated to be your successor. Peter Mbah, his running mate Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, our brother, and all other PDP candidates.
Sunday Odo, the chairman of the Obollo Afor Market, made a similar point. Gov. Ugwuanyi was praised for his efforts in Enugu State, and he was promised of their unwavering support for all PDP candidates in the upcoming general election.
In support of their endorsements, Zachary Ibrahim Babangida, the head of the Hausa community in Udenu LGA, praised Gov. Ugwuanyi for advancing peace, national unity, and good governance in Enugu State and promised the governor that they would support him and the other PDP candidates wholeheartedly in the 2023 elections.
Earlier in his remarks, Hon. Solomon Onah, Chairman of Udenu LGA and State Chairman of Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), reaffirmed the support of the market vendors, tricycle drivers, and motorcycle drivers, noting that their visit was motivated by their love and genuine appreciation of the governor’s good deeds in Enugu State.
