17 State party chairs have been suspended by the African Democratic Congress’ National Working Committee (NWC), which is headed by Chief Ralph Nwosu, for what it called anti-party behavior.
The former National Vice Chairman for the North East, Alhaji Ibrahim Manzo, was expelled from the party on Wednesday, according to a statement jointly signed by the party’s National Chairman, Nwosu, and National Secretary, Alhaji Said Abdullahi.
The party also said that Dr. Mani Ahmed, a past presidential candidate for the party, had been chosen to lead the Board of Trustees (BoT).
The party firmly said that it has suspended all of the “illegal caretaker committee’s” members.
The following resolutions were offered and adopted in the emergency NWC and Critical Stakeholders’ Meeting on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at the Global Campus and Transformation Center of the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
“That Dr. Mani Ibrahim Ahmed, the party’s presidential candidate in 2015 and 2023, has been named the next chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT).
That former National Vice Chairman for the North East, Alhaji Ibrahim Manzo, is now expelled from the party.
“That the following state chairmen are hereby suspended from the party due to the anti-party activities, act(s)/conduct and utterances aimed at bringing the Party into disrepute, attempts to destabilize our great party and undue negative publicity, and various other activities in violation of Article 15 of our party constitution.”
The state chairmen that have been suspended are Mr. Kingsley Temitope Oggah (Kogi State), Mr. Kennedy Odion (Edo State), Alhaji Auwal Abba Barde (Gombe State), Mr. Leader Sampson (Rivers State), Mr. Johnny Tovie Derek (Bayelsa State), Mr. Elias Adikwu (Benue State), Alhaji Bello Isiyaku, (Sokoto (Borno State).
Mr. Ilesanmi Omolayo Joel (Ekiti State) and Mr. Kabiru Hussaini are several more (Jigawa State) Alhaji Musa Hassan (Niger State); Mr. Patrick Ambut (Kaduna State); Barr. Emmanuel Dibia (Delta State); Clement Ehigiator (FCT);
Alaka Godwin William (Nassarawa State), Mr. Bala Suffiayanu, and Hon. Samuel Gyang (Plateau State) (Kebbi State).
The party emphasized that the replacements for the chairmen who were suspended will be revealed soon.
The party also declared that Mr. Don Norman, the previous chairman of Abia State, had been expelled.
The party advised all Wards, LGAs, and States Executives to keep organizing the party at the local level in preparation for the start of the campaign.
Additionally, it urged all candidates to put their attention on the organization, planning, and organization of their electioneering campaign rather than being sidetracked by the rather sad actions of the agents seeking to sidetrack the party.
The party also sent an invitation to all National Assembly (Senate and House of Representatives) candidates to visit the party headquarters on Monday, September 12, 2022, to pick up their certificates of return.
