BREAKING ASUU to appeal court ruling asking lecturers to end strike. The National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) ordered the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to call off its members’ seven-month strike, but ASUU says it will appeal.
This was said by Dr. Kasim Umar, the head of ASUU’s University of Abuja branch, in response to the court’s directive in Abuja.
According to Umar, the ASUU national executive council will meet today to finalize the details of the appeals procedure.
Meanwhile, Prof. Ahmed Modibbo Mohammed, the pro-chancellor of the University of Abuja, has counseled the federal government to exercise prudence in managing the union dispute.
The ongoing conflict between ASUU and the government, in Modibbo’s opinion, cannot be resolved by the aforementioned court judgment.
In response to the court’s decision, Professor Modibbo stated that using force was not a solution and urged both the government and ASUU to engage in talks to end the strike.
He emphasized that rather than just issuing a fiat order, conversation continues to be the best way to address the situation.
