BREAKING Supreme Court affirms Delta Speaker, Oborevwori Sheriff as Delta PDP gubernatorial candidate. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will run Oborevwori Sheriff Francis Orohwedor, speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, for governor in the state’s 2023 general election, the Supreme Court of Nigeria ruled on Friday in Abuja.
The Federal High Court’s July 7, 2022 verdict that invalidated his nomination due to certificate fraud and perjury was overturned and set aside by the Apex Court on Monday, August 29. This decision was supported by the Supreme Court.
According to Justice Tijani Abubakar, originating summons cannot establish beyond a reasonable doubt the serious charges of information supply fraud and certificate forgery made against the Speaker.
The court concluded that instead of issuing a summons, which simply requires affidavit proof, the appellant should have contacted the Federal High Court via a Writ of Summons to facilitate dispute settlement.
According to the arguments put up by Oborevwori Sheriff Francis Orohwed’s attorney, Mr. Damian Dodo SAN, Justice Abubakar decided all legal disputes in Orohwed’s favor.
The Supreme Court concluded that David Edevbie’s appeal has no validity in any way, and the matter was consequently dismissed.
