BREAKING Wike’s suit seeking Atiku’s disqualification from 2023 election for hearing today

BREAKING Wike’s suit seeking Atiku’s disqualification from 2023 election for hearing today. On Wednesday (today), a Federal High Court in Abuja will hear a lawsuit allegedly filed by Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, the governor of Rivers State, asking for Atiku Abubakar, the PDP candidate, to be disqualified from running in the 2023 presidential election.Justice Ahmed Ramat Mohammed, a court vacation judge, is scheduled to hear the lawsuit with the filing number FHC/ABJ/CS/782/2022 that was filed jointly with one Prince Michael Newgent Ekamon.

Wike’s lawsuit is listed second on the cause list for August 31, 2022, according to a cause list discovered by a DAILY POST correspondent.

About seven Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) had entered the courtroom as of the time of this report, setting the stage for some legal fireworks in the case.

Also present in the courtroom to observe the proceedings are a number of political sympathizers from various political parties.

The governor had distanced himself from the lawsuit when it became public, so it was unclear if he would decide to withdraw from the case.

According to reports, Wike sued Atiku, Aminu Tambuwal, the governor of Sokoto State, and the PDP over how the party’s primary election, which took place in Abuja on May 28 and May 29, 2022, was handled.

In the original summons, Wike and his co-applicant requested that the court rule on eight different matters, including whether the PDP’s alleged transfer of Tambuwal’s votes to Atiku was invalid and unconstitutional.

The plaintiffs requested that the court decide whether Tambuwal lost his right to vote after he resigned in favor of Atiku.

He requested the court to rule on whether Tambuwal “deserved to forfeit his votes having stood down during the primaries.”

In addition to requesting nine reliefs, Wike and Ekamon also seek the court to declare that the purported transfer of Tambuwal’s votes to Atiku was invalid.

However, Justice Mohammed hadn’t yet arrived at the time of this report.
