Ekiti DJ arrested for impersonating Zazuu crooner, Portable

Ekiti DJ arrested for impersonating Zazuu crooner, Portable. Famotemi Toluwani Timothy, a disc jockey from in the state of Ekiti, was detained by agents from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ilorin Zonal Command, for reportedly imitating Portable, a well-known hip-hop artist.

Wilson Uwujaren, the anti-graft agency’s head of media and publicity, said in a statement on Wednesday that he was taken into custody on Thursday, September 29, 2022.

Timothy, an Igede-Ekiti resident from the Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti State, is accused of creating a fake Instagram account called “Zazu Omolalomi Portable” and posing as the singer.

According to the statement, investigations revealed that the suspect had communicated with one of his victims via social media, Adebayo Adedimeji Lukman, who owns a club in Offa, Kwara State. He introduced himself as “Portable” and agreed to perform at the club in exchange for N1m, the statement said.

Adebayo reportedly sent N790,000 into a bank account listed by the suspect after the suspect demanded that 80% of the money be paid before the event.

The event was held on February 18, 2022, but the self-described artist “Portable” failed to appear and afterwards cut off contact with the suspect.

The statement said, “The suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigations are finished.”
