FIFA extends worldwide four-year ban on ex-Golden Eaglets star, Okwonkwo. Orji Okwonkwo, a former Nigerian youth international, has had his four-year doping suspension extended globally by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA).
The Italian National Anti-Doping Tribunal had previously imposed a four-year suspension on Okwonkwo.
According to Jorge Ivan Palacio, chair of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee, the judgment conforms with FIFA rules and the extension of the punishments does not violate established norms of behavior or public order.
Therefore, the Committee made the decision to prolong the punishment imposed on the player by the Italian NADO on June 20, 2022. In compliance with the Decision, the player is punished with a four-year suspension from all football-related activity, he added.
The suspension of Okwonkwo is effective from February 25, 2022, through February 24, 2026.
The Nigerian Golden Eaglets team, which included the 24-year-old, won the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile in 2015.
