Insecurity Akeredolu chides presidency over claim on approval AK-47. The governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has blasted the federal government for reportedly hesitating to provide the go-ahead for the use of advanced weaponry by state security forces in the face of evolving security concerns.
In a statement released by his chief press secretary, Richard Olatunde, Akeredolu noted that the claim made by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, about the use of automatic weapons by state security organizations betrayed the current realities in the entire country.
The governor further questioned Shehu’s decision to represent the Kastina State Government as its official spokesman after refuting Shehu’s claim that the Katsina State security force had trained with an AK-47.
Where did the firearms come from? Akeredolu asked the White House spokesperson about the weaponry shown by the Katsina state security unit. Who authorized the usage of them? After usage, the weapons were brought back to the armory.
According to the TVC news broadcast, the AK47 was nearing use. If not, what function does firearms training serve?
“State Security agencies supported by law, whether in Western Nigeria, Katsina, Borno, Benue or any Northern State, must have access to the same sophisticated weaponry that the criminals have,” Akeredolu said. It’s time to defeat these opposition forces.
