Kogi government ban mining activities. The Kogi State administration has outlawed illegal mining throughout the whole State.
Two persons died at an unlawful mining site in Ika-Ogboyaga, Ankpa Local Government Area of the State, after a section of a mining bed fell in, prompting the order.
It happened on Saturday that the two victims, Attah and Amodu, passed away.
The Kogi State Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Bashiru Gegu, issued an order directing all operators to register with the ministry going forward.
The State government would allegedly crack down on mining companies and sites if the mandate wasn’t followed.
The State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has reportedly started an investigation to identify the site’s owner.
The command’s head of solid minerals, Nkom Samson Katung, revealed that divisional officers had been instructed to get in touch with the local chief in order to put an end to illicit activity there.
