Man arraigned for stealing phone, recharge cards in Osun

Man arraigned for stealing phone, recharge cards in Osun. Akanmu Waheed, a 23-year-old man, has been charged with breaking into Sikiru Modinat’s home and stealing items worth N.4 million before the Osogbo magistrate Court.

Akanmu, the defendant, was charged with four counts of theft, unauthorized entry, and felony-level crimes on Tuesday.

According to police prosecutor Elisha Olusegun, the defendant is accused of committing the crime on June 5, 2022, at around 2:00 a.m. in Okinni, Osun State’s Ibuowo Street.

The charge against him reads, “Akanmu Waheed did steal one Tecno mobile phone valued at (N65,000:00k), (2) Recharge Cards valued at (N135,000:00k), and (3) cash sum of two hundred and forty eight thousand naira (N248,000:00k total value (N448,700:00k) property of Sikiru Modinat on the same date, time, and place in the aforementioned Magisterial district.

“You, Akanmu Waheed, did steal a cash sum of five hundred naira (N500:00k) belonging to Baliameen Mariam Temilade on the same day, time, and location in the aforementioned Magisterial district. “You Akanmu Waheed did willfully and unlawfully destroy Sikiru Modinat’s window net and door knob property on the same date, time, and location in the aforementioned Magisterial district,” the court declared.

Sections 414, 390(9), and 45 of Osun State’s Criminal Code, Volume II, Laws of 2002, are broken by the offense.

But Akanmu entered a not guilty plea to the accusations leveled against him.

Julius Akigbe, the defendant’s attorney, requested the court to release the prisoner on bond while pointing out that the legal definition of the offenses for which he was accused was bailable.

The defendant was granted bail with a surety in the amount of N500,000 by the presiding magistrate, A.K. Ajala.

The hearing in the case was postponed until October 25.
