Ondo Kidnappers demand N90m ransom for abducted burial guests. Before releasing the victims, the kidnappers who kidnapped several funeral attendees in Ondo State demanded a ransom of N90 million.
According to reports, the kidnappers asked that each victim pay between N3 million and N10 million in order to be released.
While coming from a funeral ceremony in Ewatto, Edo State, the victims were kidnapped at Ifon, Ondo State, a border town with that state.
At a news conference in Akure, Mrs. Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, the Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, said that the state government was not taking part in the ransom talks.
Olateju claims that paying a ransom gives kidnappers more license to carry out their crime.
“The victims traveled to Ewatto town for a funeral. When they were ambushed by alleged kidnappers, they were traveling home in a 32-seat Coaster bus that they had rented from Rufus Guwa Polytechnic. 18 of the passengers were taken when the kidnappers fired into the air.
“Those who were still there dialed the Amotekun Corps, who arrived on the scene in under 15 minutes. Seven of those in the jungle were located, while two more managed to get away.
