As PDP promises to halt the election

The local government election will take place on October 15, 2022, according to the Osun Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC).

This was revealed at a press conference held by the commission’s chairman, Otunba Segun Oladitan, on Monday in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State.

Oladitan stated that the panel will use the presidential system to conduct elections for all local government positions in the state.

“The commission is pleased to inform you and the general public that the Local Government Elections in Osun State of Nigeria shall be conducted on the fifteenth day of October, 2022,” he said.

“For a while now, the Commission had been conducting internal planning for the conduct of Local Government Elections and establishing required relationships with pertinent Stakeholders.

“The Commission met with all of the political parties in the State on Friday, August 12, 2022, and told them of the impending election’s schedule.

“We, Members of the Commission, shall ensure that the elections are free, fair, transparent, and trustworthy,” he declared.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vowed to use every legal strategy to thwart the election, nevertheless.

According to Dr. Akindele Adekunle, the chairman of the caretaker committee, OSIEC’s attempt to operate local government is unlawful.

“The attention of the Peoples Democratic Party, Osun State Chapter, has been called to the announcement made by the Chairman of Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) on the plan to conduct Local Government elections in Osun State on October 15, 2022, a period of approximately 60 (sixty) days from today and a period of approximately 3 months to the takeoff of administration of the Governor-Elect, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke,” the full statement read

“Recall that around two weeks ago, the PDP alerted the OSIEC Chairman, Otunba Segun Oladitan, about a scheme to conduct illegitimate local government elections in Osun State, but he dismissed it as a rumor. However, only five days later, the OSIEC chairman invited political parties to a briefing they referred to as “a PARLEY.”

“At the aforementioned meeting, which took place on Friday, August 12, 2022, the PDP was effectively represented, and a warning letter was openly delivered and addressed in front of the Commission. In addition to the alleged election’s illegality, other criminal activity by OSIEC is also taking place, and the Osun people will suffer financial harm as a result of these pointless exercises. The aforementioned letter’s contents are accessible in the public domain.

We in the PDP shall not sit back and let the APC convert our beloved state into a lawless entity because it appears that the OSIEC Chairman is keen about carrying out the unlawful poll. We shall make sure that the evil and perilous OSIEC plan, which has grown to be an extension of the APC, never comes to pass.

“We will use all legal measures to oppose OSIEC’s unlawful and horrifying intentions for the state, including mobilizing the people of Osun State who have given us the responsibility to protect their interests daily.

As we already indicated, the major goals of the fraudulent election were to waste state money and make up for some financial transgressions committed by the departing APC government.

“Members of the public, in particular the suffering masses of Osun, are thus called upon to join the PDP in its efforts towards quenching the crisis the defeated APC Administration is seeking to sow in the state through OSIEC.”
