RMAFC is urged by Gbajabiamila to inform Nigerians about the salary of MPs.. Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, has urged the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission, or RMAFC, to think about informing Nigerians more about the distinction between members’ salaries and allowances.
When Gbajabiamila met a team from the RMAFC at the National Assembly led by its chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Bello Shehu, on Thursday in Abuja, he made the appeal.
The Speaker of the Green Chamber pointed out that grouping together MPs’ salaries and allowances has led to controversies around their compensation and constant public debate.
According to Gbajabiamila, allowances are connected to various responsibilities or tasks associated with a lawmaker’s job, such as running a constituency office, but the salary represents his real remuneration as a legislator.
“You must clarify to the populace the distinction between pay and perks. They are sometimes grouped together and referred to as our take-home bundle. Salary varies, and allowances are intended to cover a wide range of additional difficulties.
He remarked, “What you are working on today involving the courts and political office holders should include this explanation.”
In order for the House to move quickly on it, he further urged RMAFC to develop a common platform for tracking income flows across all government revenue-generating agencies. He also demanded that it provide a thorough plan outlining its requirements.
