Tension as daredevil gunmen storm Kogi town, raid three banks. On Tuesday, armed robbers raided the UBA, Zenith, and First Bank locations in Ankpa, Kogi State.
According to information obtained by DAILY POST, the incident, which happened at around 2pm, raised tension in the neighborhood.
Eyewitness Lucy Yongu told Daily Post how the attackers, numbering around 30, entered the town and immediately started shooting at the UBA branch before moving on to Zenith Bank and then First Bank.
She said that the attackers stole an undefined amount of money from both the bankers and the clients.
She stated, “They arrived in a convoy of many vehicles while the attack was in progress, firing randomly. They were there for more than an hour without any assistance from security.
“Some locals still aren’t allowed to leave their homes. It still surprises me how these individuals were able to carry out the attack for such a prolonged period of time without assistance from the military or police.
According to information obtained by DAILY POST, a team of security personnel rushed in to restore order to the area after the gunmen had fled.
At the time of publication, SP William Aya, the police public relations officer, was unable to receive calls or reply to texts addressed to him, making attempts to contact the State police headquarters unsuccessful.
