Thousands of Ebonyi youths march for Peter Obi after police tear-gassing [Video]. Despite efforts to stop them, thousands of Peter Obi’s supporters marched through Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi, on Saturday.
Recently, the youth-led organization known as Obidients organized a national rally in support of Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate.
After being tear-gassed by a police detachment in the morning, the large crowd today dispersed.
They shouted songs of unity and hoisted banners with the likenesses of Obi and his running companion, Datti Baba-Ahmed.
After the general elections in 2023, the supporters further emphasized that a generational transition was necessary. Some people stated, “We are the structure.
The rally’s disruption was not ordered, according to Governor Dave Umahi of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which is now in power.
However, detractors charge Umahi and his government with abusing the state apparatus and funding goons to stir up trouble.
The incident has been compared by some to the End SARS march in October 2020 that thugs hijacked in Lagos and some other states.
