NYSC stands for National Youths Service Corp. The important Scheme was established in 1973 by general Gowon few years after Nigerian Independence, in a bid to encourage unity and oneness across the Nation.

Discipline: Service to humanity cannot be underated. Infact, it speak a volume of one legal standpoint. It is therefore the aim of National Youth service Corp to inculcate discipline in Nigerian youths by instilling in them an ability to be industrious in doing their businesses and to ensure rendering adequate services to their Ultimate environment.
Moral Standard Improvement: Negatives and Negativity is subjective, however, good morals is the foundation of good living. This is why NYSC Scheme takes it as it’s responsibility to raise the moral Standard of the Nigerian youths by giving them the opportunity to learn about higher ideals of national achievement, social and cultural improvement. At the same time, applying them in their day to day activities.
Development of Self Reliance Abilities: A local adage of the traditionalist in western African countries states that “I’ll rather you teach me how to catch fish than to feed me with one”. This speaks well on empowerment. This is one of the core part of Youth Service as the scheme enables Nigerian youths acquire the spirit of self reliance by encouraging them to develop skills for self employment. (i.e SAED).
For National Growth: A wise man once said that the growth of a Nation is well defined by the versatility of the youths of such country. NYSC also uphold this logic, which in turn makes the scheme encourages the Nigerian graduates to contribute to the accelerated growth of the national economy. The movement also teaches them how to do this.
Unity: Foundation is the base of any structure and from the footing to the top, there must be a strong connection. Nigeria is a structure that is made up of diverse part. To stay connected as a nation, there must unity and oness. This is why NYSC develop common ties among the Nigerian youths and promote national unity and integration
Equity: In rule of law and exhibition of fundamental human rights, no one is greater or better than the other. The National Youth Service Corp also acknowledges this fact, thereby enforcing and ensuring the equitable distribution of members of the service corps and the effective utilisation of their skills in area of national needs. They are believed to do this without any preferential differences.
Prejudice Removal: To every sin committed, the devil and ignorance is to blame. It’s far from many people to acknowledge their wrongs after a bad deeds. However, ignorance isn’t so solid is the law court. This is why NYSC Scheme see to removing prejudices, eliminate ignorance and confirm at first hand the many similarities among Nigerians of all ethnic groups. (So we can a say that, to be for warned is to before punished)

Youth Service is desirable, not only to the nation, but also to the fresh graduates (with only few exceptions, “winks”).
