UCL, EPL Kane, Son told to question Conte’s tactics, Ally McCoist, a former player for Rangers and Scotland, thinks that Harry Kane and Son Heung-min of Tottenham should confront manager Antonio Conte about the team’s tactics.
McCoist claims that this season, Kane and Son have not performed to their full potential as a result of Conte’s strategies.
Following their 3-1 loss to rivals Arsenal in the Premier League last weekend, he said following Tottenham’s 0-0 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Although Tottenham doesn’t now appear to be benefiting from Conte’s three-man defense, he is known for his conservative style of play.
“You look at a club like Spurs clearly coming off a really awful performance, a poor outcome on the weekend in the derby game, you are expecting for a reaction,” McCoist said in a statement to BT Sport.
“I don’t believe anyone can dispute that Spurs’ strengths are in the attacking section of the pitch. There are, in my opinion, open questions defensively. I seemed like they were a little bit more solid when they came back against Chelsea; is this the tipping point? However, I disagree.
“I believe Spurs supporters might argue, is Conte playing to the strengths of his team? I’m not certain. He obviously prioritizes defense in how he organizes his squad, and you have to admit that he is incredibly skilled at it. This season, Spurs have only suffered one league defeat, which came in the North London derby.
But if I were a Kulusevski, Harry Kane, or Son and I played for that Spurs squad, I’d definitely be doubting how we’re playing.
