viral video purporting to show a chopper unloading 100 unusual individuals Police in Enugu. A popular video purporting to show hundreds of people being dropped from a helicopter on top of a hill in the state capital has been branded as malicious and fraudulent by the Enugu State Police Command.
According to DAILY POST, the film, which featured a female voice over, led to unrest in the State.
But DSP Daniel Ndukwe, Police Public Relations Officer, Enugu Command, said in a statement made available to journalists that “the unfortunate viral video clip of alleged helicopters dropping hundreds of unidentified persons on the top of Ugwu-ajali hill, bordering Ologo, Jamboree, and Coal Camp areas of Enugu is fake and should be disregarded.
He said that a manhunt had been started to find the perpetrators of the malicious information.
“Following the receipt of a viral video featuring female voices alleging, in a mix of Igbo and English, that on October 14, 2022, in the late afternoon, helicopters dropped unidentified people, numbering about one hundred (100), on top of Ugwu-ajali hill, bordering Ologo, Jamboree, and Coal Camp areas of Enugu, the State Police Command wishes to inform residents of the said locations and the entire State that the clearly doctore
“As a result, the Command is urging the populace to completely disregard the unfounded and fake video, as there is no record of such an incident in the mentioned locations or any other part of the State, because it is aware of the detrimental effects of disinformation on public peace, security, and safety in this day and age.
While emphasizing the Command’s steadfast commitment to ensuring the highest level of public security and the protection of State people, Commissioner of Police CP Ahmed Ammani has ordered the conduct of an intelligence-guided, covert investigation to find the writers and sellers of the bogus film.
“The Commissioner also urges State people to uphold the law, be watchful, and make an effort to evaluate and/or verify the extensive and inaccurate social media information of this,”
He also exhorts people to keep immediately reporting crooks and criminal conduct to the local police station, the man claimed.
On Friday, the State Security Council Meeting was presided over by Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo, the Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Edward Uchenna Ubosi, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, and the heads of the state’s security agencies, namely Brig. Gen. M.K. Ibrahim, who oversaw the 82 Division’s garrison, Air Commodore Isaiah Taiwo
The meeting assessed the state’s security position and made significant decisions.
